Wings hitman could make League switch

ON TRIAL: Danny Kedwell
ON TRIAL: Danny Kedwell

STRIKER Danny Kedwell could leave Welling before the start of the new season – after spending a week on trial at League 1 Brentford.

The Wings forward, who had an immediate impact last season by scoring 23 goals in 40 games, is on trial and expected to play for Brentford in a friendly against Staines in front of Bees manager Leroy Rosenior.

"Brentford are very keen on him," said Welling boss Adrian Pennock.

"Their former manager Martin Allen was impressed with him and this is a chance for the new manager to look at Danny."

However, Pennock did assure Welling fans that any deal would see the Wings receive a major fee for the striker, who was signed from Kent League Herne Bay last summer.

"Danny has done well, he has got a good head on him now and if he does get a move into the League then it will be great for him and for Welling."

Welling's pre-season friendy at Herne Bay has been re-arranged for Monday, July 17, kick-off 7.45pm.

The Wings' match at home to Thurrock has been put back by the Conference and will now take place on March 6.
