Shocking Welling clung on for a midweek replay after failing to see off lowly Whyteleafe in the FA Cup on Saturday.

The visitors, who play two divisions below the Wings, were by far the better team and should have won the second qualifying round tie.

It appeared to be plain-sailng for the Wings after five minutes when Ryan Martin headed in Charlie Sheringham's right-wing cross, but it went downhill at an alarming rate thereafter.

The visitors levelled after 28 minutes when Steve McNamara's free-kick was glanced in by Asher Hudson.

Welling had a goal ruled out for a foul by Sheringham just before the break but they failed to get going in the second half.

Whyteleafe dominated the second period although chances were few and far between.

Only two excellent blocks by Welling defenders Craig Graham-Barrett and Matt McEntegart denied Paul Scott and then substitute Richard Morris a winning goal for Leafe.

Welling nearly claimed an unlikely victory late into stoppage time - but Tony Sinclair headed substitute Dorian Smith's right-wing cross straight at the keeper.

Wings boss Andy Ford kept his players in the dressing room for more than an hour after the match as they now prepare for a replay on Wednesday night.
