Welling boss Jamie Day has signed Jamal Fyfield after he was released by fellow Conference Premier side Grimsby.
The centre-back, who can also operate at left-back, also made 79 league appearances for York and was part of the team that won the FA Trophy and promotion back to the Football League in 2011/12.
"I'm delighted to bring Jamal into the club," said Day. "He is a player we have admired for a long time, he has plenty of quality and also experience at this level and above."
Fyfield joined Grimsby in the previous transfer window on a free transfer and featured 10 times for the Mariners. Fyfield started his career as a youth-team player at Leyton Orient and also featured for Maidenhead before linking up with York for a nominal fee in September 2010.
The move for Fyfield comes at a time when another new recruit, Callum McNaughton, is expected to miss the start of the season.
McNaughton had agreed a one-year deal with the Wings at the start of June, subject to a swift return from a summer operation. However, McNaughton is now expected to miss the start of pre-season and has been invited to rejoin the squad when he is back fit.
