WELLING bid to extend their unbeaten Blue Square South run to four games at home to managerless Braintree on Tuesday night.
The Wings had to settle for a point against big-spending Havant on Saturday but victory over Braintree would complete a satisfactory return of four points in two games, according to manager Neil Smith.
“Braintree is a big game for us now because four points from two home matches isn’t bad,” said Smith. “It would be a step in the right direction.
“But it’s going to be a hard game, Braintree are fighting for their lives so we need to make sure we are up for the match.”
Smith hopes to complete the signing of a loan forward before the match while midfielder Sam Keevill, who has been on the bench for the last two games, is in contention for a place in the starting line-up.
Smith added: “Sam was injured and is now back in the frame the same as everyone else.
“He did well when he came on against Havant, I’ve known him for years and he is a quality player.”
Braintree, who sacked manager George Borg last week, drew 0-0 at Cambridge on Saturday under the stewardship of captain Brad Quinton and reserve team manager Tom Marshall.
