Welling were pegged back by a second-half equaliser from 10-man Barnet in Skrill Premier on Saturday.

Ahead thanks to Joe Healy's cross-shot in the first half, the Wings failed to get the killer second goal and ultimately paid the price against Edgar Davids' men.

Davids played in defence for Barnet with ex-Wing Anthony Acheampong named only as a substitute.

Barnet started brightly and created plenty of early chances. Kieron Cadogan and Mauro Vilhete both shot wide while Andy Yiadom right-foot shot was deflected for a corner.

Defender Jack Saville then headed a corner against the top of the bar before Davids' misplaced backpass went out for a corner at the other end.

Barnet nearly went ahead on 24 minutes when Marciano Mengerink headed over keeper Lee Butcher but impressive Welling debutant Baily Cargill, on loan from Bournemouth, was back in time to clear the danger.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men on 26 minutes when Yiadom went flying into a challenge on Loick Pires and was sent-off by referee Amy Fearn.

Within four minutes, the Wings were ahead as Fraser Franks' long ball forward caught Barnet napping and Healy's (pictured) first-time effort left keeper Graham Stack stranded.

Kurtis Guthrie saw his low drive turned around the post moments later and, in an action-packed half, Barnet nearly levelled as Butcher brilliantly tipped over Keanu Marsh-Brown's long-range shot.

Welling had a golden opportunity to double their lead after the break as Lee Clarke fed Alex Dyer but he shot narrowly over, then both Healy and Dyer missed a good opening.

Barnet, for all their neat football, rarely threatened in the second half but they stayed in the game and were rewarded with 19 minutes left when Loui Fazakerley conceded a penalty after a foul on Marsh-Brown, the visitors' outstanding player. Marsh-Brown promptly tucked away the spot-kick.

Substitute Kiernan Hughes-Mason nearly won it for the Wings with seven minutes left but his low shot hit the post from 20 yards.

Davids, already booked for dissent, then escaped a red card for a late foul on Guthrie but the visitors successfully held on for a point.

Welling travel to Braintree on Tuesday night.
