Millwall forward Charlie Penny to join Conference Premier Welling United on July 1, 2014

Welling have made their first new signing of the close season after snapping up striker Charlie Penny from Championship outfit Millwall.

Penny, who spent time on loan at Wealdstone last season, will join the Wings on a permanent basis with effect from July 1 and goes straight into manager Jamie Day's first-team squad for the new campaign.

Delighted Wings boss Day said: "Charlie is a young player who we have monitored over the last few seasons and we acted quickly when he became available.

"He has shown he can score goals, and he also helped Wealdstone win promotion while on loan last season so has experience in non-league circles.

"He wants to listen and develop which is another reason for signing him.

"We know that he will fit in well with the boys so I am really looking forward to working with Charlie next season."

Penny, who signed his first professional contract with Millwall last summer, did not make a first-team appearance at The New Den.
