Wings slump to another defeat

Omari Coleman's goal wasn't enough for Welling
Omari Coleman's goal wasn't enough for Welling

Welling 1 Hayes & Yeading 2

TWO goals in as many second half minutes condemned Welling to their fifth league defeat of the season to Hayes & Yeading on Saturday.

The Wings threw away a first half lead given to them by top scorer Omari Coleman and failed to complete their first double of the campaign in the process.

Having already beaten Hayes last month the Wings looked on course to repeat the feat when Coleman's initial effort gave them the lead after 25 minutes.

In truth Hayes should have led at half-time as Will Hendry and Simon Martin both wasted golden opportunities in the first half.

The visitors made no mistake in front of goal after the break drawing level through Hendry's deflected effort five minutes into the second period.

They went ahead two minutes later when Chris Moore's header fell perfectly for Steve Gregory whose dipping volley proved too good for Clark Masters.

Striker Miles Jones wasted a great chance to make it 3-1 while the best Welling could muster was a Coleman effort which found the side netting.

The Wings left the field to a chorus of boos from the home fans and will need a vast improvement at high-flying Eastbourne on Tuesday night.
