Basingstoke 1 Welling United 3
QUICK-FIRE Welling picked up their second away win of the campaign thanks to a blistering start at Basingstoke on Saturday.
The Wings maintained their 100 per cent record on Saturdays this season after racing into a two-goal lead after just six minutes.
Welling were ahead after 50 seconds when Jamie Day sent Danny Kedwell clear and he beat keeper Stuart Searle to the ball before scoring into an empty net.
The lead was doubled five minutes later with Day again the man behind the move. He sent Kedwell clear down the left and his cross was turned in by Martin Carthy.
Kedwell then headed straight at Searle as the Wings dominated and the striker claimed his second of the afternoon seven minutes before half-time with a low right-footed shot from the edge of the penalty area.
It could have been more before half-time as defender Ben Lewis headed Day's corner against the bar and Kedwell fluffed the rebound.
Basingstoke came into the game after the break but had only James Taylor's right-foot shot on 66 minutes to show for their efforts.
The Wings comfortably played out five minutes of stoppage time and nearly extended their lead when the influential Day saw his right-footed 30-yard free-kick tipped over by Searle.
