WELLING manager Neil Smith has described the loss of defender Tony Sinclair until the start of next year as "a devastating blow".

Sinclair, 22, dislocated his kneecap just before half-time during the goalless draw at Dorchester last Saturday.

Stand-in skipper Sinclair has been ruled out for six to 10 weeks but the full extent of his injury will not be known until the swelling reduces and a MRI scan can take place.

"Tony is a big player for us and was establishing himself at this level," said Smith.

"It’s a big blow for him and for the club. The young players in the squad all look up to Tony and that’s why I made him captain with Richard Carpenter not available at Dorchester.

"When he comes back depends on how bad the damage is to his ligament. I’m not going to rush him back – I will wait until he is 100 per cent.

"But I will arrange personally for him to receive additional physio help to ensure he gets the best possible rehab."

Smith’s injury woes also include defender Robbie Ryan, who came off at Dorchester with a hamstring injury.

The Wings boss could delve into the transfer market again, having drafted in Southend striker Charles Ademeno on a two-month loan deal.

"I looked at Charles in the summer but he had to have a knee operation, so I’m glad that I’ve finally been able to bring him to the club," said Smith.
