Welling v St Albans
Manager Andy Ford believes Welling’s upturn in form is down to their new-found confidence.
After losing six of the first seven games under Ford’s tenure, the Wings have won five of their last seven matches to give themselves a genuine chance of avoiding the drop in Blue Square South.
Ford admitted: “The only way that you get confidence is by winning games and the run that we are on has really given the players a lift.
“We are in a false position now given our recent performances but when I first arrived we didn’t warrant a better position.
“Our confidence is the major reason, we’ve got a system that we have stuck with for the past five weeks and the players believe in it now.”
Welling take on fellow strugglers St Albans this Saturday at Park View Road in a game where victory will see them edge a step closer to safety.
St Albans have won five of their last six matches but Ford believes that the Wings can still pose a major threat.
“It will probably be one of the most difficult games we’ve had in recent weeks but then I’m sure they are thinking the same about us,” said Ford.
Welling have completed the signing of striker Luke Fontana from Carshalton to bolster their strikeforce with Ellis Remy still not match fit after returning from a hernia operation.
Key midfielder Sonny Cobbs returns from suspension against St Albans but Daniel Nwanze is ruled out as he starts a two-match ban for 10 bookings during the season.
