Yachtsmen out in force for championship

Whitstable Yacht Club will be welcoming around 80 visitors when the Mirror Dinghy class holds it southern area championships over the May Bank Holiday.

The six race series, which will be sailed over Olympic courses about a mile from the shore and controlled from the club’s committee boat, will be spread over Saturday and Sunday.

Race officer John Silk said they would be considerably shorter than those which will seen in China latest this year.

"We hope to get all the races finished within the allotted time slot so I will probably go for a triangle and windward-leeward loop. But a lot will depend on the weather and wind."
