Margate hope to secure the permanent signing of defender Liam Harwood after the 20-year-old’s impressive performances during his loan spell from Coca-Cola League 1 side Bristol Rovers.

The centre-half has started 12 games during his-two-and-a half months with the Hartsdown Park outfit, giving Terry Yorath’s defence a much-needed boost.

“We hope to get Liam signed on a permanent deal sometime this week,” said Yorath. “That would be a plus going into our game against Horsham on Saturday.

“We had a very good week, winning at Canvey and drawing with Dartford. If you’d have asked us if we’d take four points from those two games we definitely would have done.

“It’s up to us to keep the run going and I’m really looking forward to the game this weekend.”
