Charlton Athletic v Brentford
CHARLTON skipper Luke Young believes the FA Cup presents the club with their best chance of qualifying for Europe next season.
The Addicks face Coca-Cola League 1 promotion contenders Brentford at the Valley on Saturday, bidding to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals for only the third time since winning the trophy in 1947, but knowing they have a poor record in the competition against lower-league opposition.
It took a late goal from top-scorer Darren Bent to see off Sheffield Wednesday 4-2 at Hillsborough in the third round while Jay Bothroyd’s stoppage time winner in the fourth round at home to Leyton Orient allowed them to squeeze through 2-1.
"Everyone knows about our cup record, especially against opponents from lower divisions," said Young. "So we will not be taking Brentford lightly.
"The FA Cup is our best chance of Europe because we’ve probably given ourselves too much to do in the league now. If we can put together a good cup run it will spur us on in the league as well."
Midfielder Matt Holland could return to contention after missing the last three games with a thigh injury.
Only 600 of Brentford’s ticket allocation of just under 6,000 remain unsold. Tickets are avaiable to Charlton season ticket holders and members priced at £20 adults, £10 over 60s and Under 18s and £5 under 16s.
