Young stopper set for top flight bow

CHANCE: Darren Randolph
CHANCE: Darren Randolph

Liverpool v Charlton Athletic

GOALKEEPER Darren Randolph will make his Premiership debut for Charlton in Sunday's final match of the season at Liverpool - 24 hours after celebrating his 20th birthday.

Manager Alan Pardew confirmed that Randolph, who made three league appearances on loan for Gillingham at the start of the season, will play rather than injury-plagued Norway international Thomas Myhre.

He replaces Scott Carson who completed his season-long loan from Liverpool on Monday against Tottenham and is ineligible to face his club.

Pardew said: "Darren has trained every day so I thought it would be unfair to go with someone else. Thomas has had a series of injuries so Darren will get his chance to show what he can do.

"It's not down to one game and he'll get an even crack at the start of next season, though with Thomas leaving in the summer, I intend bringing in another goalkeeper who will intensify the pressure for that position."

With central defender Talal El Karkouri ruled out by a foot injury, Madjid Bougherra looks likely to replace him in central defence, while left-back Ben Thatcher is available after missing the Spurs game through suspension.

Pardew expects the Champions League finalists to field their strongest side ahead of their showdown with AC Milan in Athens on May 23.

Pardew also disclosed that he had spoken with two players, who are out of contract, regarding moves to The Valley. He also confirmed that he would not be speaking to any Charlton players regarding their futures until after Sunday's match.
