The lack of toilets for women in the town centre late at night has been highlighted again, after one woman was witnessed using the men’s public urinal.
The issue has been raised by Maidstone’s Street Pastors earlier this year, but a solution was not found.
But after the shocking scene, which happened last Saturday Town Centre Management’s nightime economy forum decided to ask assistant director for environment at Maidstone council, Steve Goulette, to one of their meetings to see if the matter can be resolved.
Suggestions that pubs and clubs could allow women back in late at night to use their facilities have proved unpopular with owners and unworkable and Maidstone council has said there are not the funds to provide a portable toilet for women on Saturday nights, as the cost is much lower than the urinal.
The pastors’ co chairman Jonathan Jankowski told the forum on Tuesday: “I do feel like a stuck record on it but it is an issue that keeps coming up. There is nowhere for ladies to do what they need to do.”
