Four people have been taken to hospital after a pile-up on the A21 near Lamberhurst today.
Two air ambulances landed after five cars and van were involved in the serious crash at about 10.40am.
Four people were trapped in their cars following the collision that blocked the road in both directions for more than four hours.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service said crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to free two men and two women.
Police said one person has been flown to a London hospital with injuries currently described as serious.
Three people have been taken by land ambulance to the Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury - one with injuries thought to be serious and two with injuries described as minor.
Two of the vehicles are thought to have suffered only minor damage.
Police earlier warned drivers to avoid the area after officers were called at 10.40am along with crews from South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
It happened on the A21 Tunbridge Wells-bound, between the Goudhurst and Blueboys roundabouts.
KFRS said crews left the scene at about 12.40pm, but queues built as the A21 remained shut in both directions.
Police said the road remained closed in both directions between the A262 (Forstal roundabout) and B2160 (Blue Boys roundabout) until about 3.05pm while an investigation continued.
