The north-bound carriageway between the M20 junction near Maidstone and the M2 at Stockbury was shut for nine hours to allow accident investigation work to be carried out.

The road reopened just after 7am, and traffic has since returned to normal.

Police, paramedics and firefighters were all called to the crash.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said two fire engines were in attendance, with crews using hydraulic equipment to gain access to one of the vehicles.

Both sides of the carriageway were closed in the aftermath, with north-bound remaining shut until just before the morning rush.
