Adult humour spoils children's charity event

by Angela Cole

A fun event aimed at raising thousands for a children’s charity proved no laughing matter when presenters began using adult-only humour.
It’s a Knockout, held at Mote Park, Maidstone, last Sunday, and organised by the Children Today Charitable Trust, was presented by TV presenter Timmy Mallett.
But peope attending were shocked to hear Mr Mallett and fellow presenters making sexually explicit jokes to the crowd, many of whom were families with young children.
One of those attending told the Kent Messenger: “Timmy and the host seemed to be having their own private fun day with their microphones making jokes with explicit sexual content. I feel this is totally inappropriate for a family day out and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one, judging by the amount of families leaving after these obscenities began.”
Ruth Thompson, head of fund-raising at Children Today said: “I would like to thank your reader for bringing this matter to our attention, and on behalf of Children Today, may I apologise for any upset. We take complaints of this nature very seriously and I will be making further enquiries about this.”
The event has been held in the county since 2002 and raises thousands each year, she said.
“People who take part and watch the show are always extremely generous and welcoming, and we look forward to bringing the event back next year,” she added.
