A boy who saved up more than £2,500 to buy a quad bike has been left heartbroken after it was stolen one week after he got it.

Three quad bikes and a motorbike totalling around £6,500 were taken from the Dixon's family home in Harrietsham during the early hours of February 11.

One of the quads belonged to Chris Dixon's 10-year-old son, Charlie, who had been saving his money from odd jobs and sold some of his older bikes to afford it.

Motor trader Chris said: "He only had it a week and was obviously heartbroken. It's affected him really bad.

"You try to explain there's a lot worse things in the world, but he's only 10 and that was his world.

"He'd do his school work and then be straight on it, whether it was riding it about when the weather was right or cleaning it. It was his pride and joy."

Chris said the quads and motorbike were locked up and stolen from Chegworth Lane at around 2am, with a group of "around four" being caught on neighbours' CCTV.

The father-of-three added: "It seems they tried to take three quads and two bikes but had to ditch one in the woods on their way out.

"It's left us worrying all the time now and on edge. Every noise or light you see you get worried."

The 33-year-old said the police weren't much help and only visited the family yesterday.

During the burglary a Yamaha YF250 quad, a Suzuki RMZ 250 motocross bike and two Suzuki LT 50 kids' quads were taken.
