Sittingbourne couple put on show in Maidstone for their 35th wedding anniversary

A Sittingbourne couple has put on quite a show renewing their vows in Maidstone today.

Steve Keegan has been planning the vow renewal for more than two years, trying to make it as special as possible for him and his wife, Tanya.

The couple are celebrating 35 years of marriage.

The spectacle began at the Mercure Great Danes Hotel this morning, with guests being transported in a range of classic cars, as well as four horse-drawn carriages.

Mr Keegan's family also wore traditional Irish tartan, as a homage to their roots.

The party travelled down the A20 to the Saint Nicholas Church in Otham, where the vow renewal will take place.

Thankfully the weather held off for the couple, and they didn't cause the traffic chaos on this main road that they worried they would.

There will then be a wedding reception at the Orchard Suite, also in Otham.

The bride will be accompanied by 15 bridesmaids, all close friends or relatives.

The couple was originally supposed to be going to Hawaii on a honeymoon, but that unfortunately fell through.

The renewal is set to be full of personal touches, with cards left at each guest's seat for them to leave messages to the couple, which will be made into a decoration for their Sittingbourne home.

The pair also plan to go on holiday to 10 different places in the next 10 years, and these destinations are forming part of the decoration for the day.

Speaking to the Kent Messenger yesterday, Mr Keegan said: "This has been two and a bit years in the making, and to be honest, I'm very tense about whether it will all go well.

"I think by 9pm I'll feel better and I can have a dance and relax then."
