INVESTIGATIONS are continuing today after a 15-month-old baby girl died in a blaze at a terraced house on a Kent housing estate.

Two three-year-old twins, both boys, were rescued from the property in Bell Road, Park Wood, Maidstone on Monday afternoon.

The name of the little girl who died has yet to be released officially but relatives confirmed her name as Rosie Prior. Her grandmother, Sharon Yorulmaz, said: "She was a lovely baby, absolutely adorable."

Floral tributes have been left at the scene of the tragedy by neighbours and other people living in the area. One of the messages read: "To our darling. Your life was short but that will always be remembered."

About 50 firefighters using nine appliances tackled the blaze which affected a row of terraced houses.

It is understood that people living in the neighbouring properties in Bell Road, may have to be rehomed.

Several properties have suffered smoke damage and the authorities are working with Maidstone Housing Turst to find them suitable accommodation.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service are working with Kent Police to establish the cause of the tragedy.

Frew crews were called at about 1pm and used hose reels, breathing apparatus and hydrants to help control the blaze.

South East Coast Ambulance Service officer Bob Digby said: “Our thoughts are with the family in what was clearly a very distressing incident for them, and all the emergency services who attended this incident.”
