A prisoner has absconded from a Kent prison, less than two weeks after another inmate went on the run.

Raymond Atkins was given leave from Blantyre House, in Goudhurst, for family reasons but authorities now have no idea where he is.

The 39-year-old was last seen at St Georges Road, Hastings, on Saturday, June 30, at 4.45pm.

A condition of his licence was to stay in a hostel allocated to him in East Sussex.

The breach comes after fellow Blantyre House inmate Jamie Frater fled while he was volunteering at a charity shop in Headcorn.

The convicted murderer handed himself in to Devon police on Thursday, June 21, after three days of being unlawfully at large.

An appeal has now been launched for information regarding Atkins' whereabouts.

He is white European, of medium build, 5'8ft, with brown eyes, dark cropped hair and has piercings in his left ear.

Police couldn't confirm if the Raymond Atkins who has gone missing is the same one jailed after a street robbery went wrong in Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex in 2005 - when a pensioner died of a heart attack following the theft.

People are advised not to approach him and are asked to call 999 with any details.
