South East Water has issued advice to people who were left without water after a water main burst.

The firm has said drinking water supplies were now returning to normal for those living in the Bearsted, Willington and Parkwood areas of Maidstone, but it has released a short video to help anyone who was affected and still experiencing discolouration or low pressure.

Residents lost their supplies at about 10am this morning.

Repairs to the burst water main were underway at about 11.30am and bottled water was available nearby.

Three hours later, a South East Water spokesman said drinking water supplies were returning to normal for most customers.

He added: "The problems have been caused by an issue with pumps at one of our water treatment works and a burst on a large water main.

"Repair crews are still on site and the work is being co-ordinated by a dedicated incident team.

"We believe 10 to 20 customers within the immediate vicinity of the burst pipe may still be without tap water or have low pressure and we are arranging delivery of bottled water to those properties.

"The repair teams will continue to work at the sites until normal service can be resumed and we will be monitoring the situation closely.

"Once again, we're really sorry for the disruption. Thank you for bearing with us."
