Neighbours in Snodland were left bemused after a misspelled road sign appeared overnight.

A makeshift disabled bay was discovered yesterday morning in Holborough Road, near to where gas works are taking place.

The creator may have meant well by providing a temporary space for blue badge holders while the mains are replaced, but they made a huge spelling error.

The incorrect road marking

Disabled was incorrectly written as 'dicabied'.

Town councillor Debbie Alford-Smith said someone has tried to rectify the mistake by changing the c to an s but the inaccurate i remains.

A spokesman for Tonbridge and Malling council confirmed the error had been made by a contractor working with Southern Gas Networks and the company has been instructed to correct the mistake.

Chloe Boyce, spokesperson for the service provider, said: "This mistake was made on Saturday by a sub-contractor working for our contractor on essential gas mains replacement work.

“It was spotted straight away by a team manager who arranged for it to be corrected on Monday.

“The incorrect spelling shouldn’t have happened. We’re very sorry it has and we’re investigating how such a mistake ever occurred.”
