Westerham man arrested by armed police in Tonbridge after 'woman mugged' in Avebury Avenue

Armed police descended on a Tonbridge street last night after reports of a man carrying a weapon.

Firearm officers were called to Avebury Avenue after claims woman had been mugged by an armed man.

A 21-year-old man from Westerham was arrested on suspicion of robbery. He remains in police custody.

Kent Police said armed officers were called to help patrols investigating a street robbery at about 9.45pm.

A spokesman said a dog unit was also sent to the scene, off Tonbridge High Street.

He added police are looking for a second man and carried out a search of nearby roads.
