The scene at Arundel Street, Maidstone

A man and woman have been released on bail after another man was admitted to Maidstone Hospital with a gunshot wound.

The Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are investigating the incident after the 24-year-old man from West Malling was admitted with a chest injury.

It is believed to have been inflicted with a shotgun, at around 11am yesterday, but is not thought to be life-threatening.

As part of the investigation officers searched a property in Arundel Street and a man and woman, both in their 30s, were arrested. They have now been released on bail.

DI Lee Whitehead from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said: “Our investigation is ongoing and I would like to speak to anyone who visited or was near Arundel Street, Fisher Street, Perryfield Street and Peel Street between 8am and 11am on Tuesday, June 4, and saw or heard anything suspicious, or that gave them cause for concern."

They are also hoping to trace the owner of an Iveco flatbed truck parked in Arundel Street at the time and want to identify the man who took the injured man to Maidstone Hospital.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101.
