A Maidstone artist is on a mission to raise awareness for charities and help people see the good in life.

After taking leave from his job as a flight attendant for mental health reasons, Bobby Duncan decided to do something positive with his time and has set about creating a fundraising organisation called Do Your Bit.

The 26-year-old says he is trying change the County Town for the better with projects that involve people working together and using their creativity.

"I came through some real hardship and wanted to give something back. Now I'm finding multiple ways to use my talents to raise money", he said.

"The reason I became a flight attendant was because I was running away from my priorities back home and running away from Maidstone because I felt it was a trap. I finally realised that I couldn’t escape where everything that I needed was and I embraced it."

"I went from stressed out trying to escape Maidstone to coming back and seeing all the potential here and seeing how can I make the place that I live better for me and for everyone else too."

The former Maidstone Grammar School pupil and University of Creative Arts student has used his artistic flair to get people's attention by letting them paint on his car.

Bobby first took to the streets in his mobile canvas for mental health awareness week in May but wanted to keep the discussion going.

He set about organising an event of his own and, with the help of Fremlin Walk and local businesses, managed to raised almost £750 for mental health charity Maidstone and Mid-Kent Mind.

Raffling a one-of-a-kind electric guitar donated by Music Matters and a picnic hamper from Bills, both in Week Street, Bobby drew in hundreds of people with the chance to win as well as offering free lemonade and entertainment from local musicians.

To spread the word about what he's doing, Bobby made a short film from the event and hopes to take it round local schools along with his car.

Since then, he has helped Maidstone Borough Council on a domestic violence awareness event in Jubilee Square, begun cultivating a social media following, and established Do Your Bit as a not-for-profit company.

Hoping to make his project really take off, Bobby has set his sights on making a big statement by painting a jumbo jet in his distinctive art style.
