A woman who was left with a head injury after being glassed in a bar says she is now too scared to go out.

Elly Brosch, from Maidstone, said she had just sat down at Harry’s Bar, at The Brenchley in High Street, Maidstone at around 11.30pm when she felt a heavy pressure and blood spurting from the side of her head.

The aesthetics business owner, from Barming, believes she was attacked by a group of women, but has no idea why she was targeted.

“I just remember there was a group of five or six girls. I had never seen them before in my life.”

Police have confirmed Elly was struck during an incident involving a group of women who were unknown to her.

Elly thinks she was hit by a glass. She said: “It seemed like they smashed a thick whisky glass on one of the umbrella poles and hit me on the head with it.”

She said two large clumps of her hair were also pulled out and the chain strap on her handbag was broken in the attack.

Since the assault, the 27-year-old said she is not accepting new customers at her business in case they are the girls who hit her.

“My business is based in Maidstone. I don’t want people I don’t know to book in.”

After staff rushed to help and take her to the toilets, Elly said she passed out “for around 20 minutes or possibly longer”.

She said the gash was right on an artery and she lost “two cups of blood”.

Elly said she waited three hours for an ambulance before taking herself to the hospital where the 4cm cut was glued together.

Following the unprovoked attack, she says she is now worried about going out again and hasn’t been able to work.

“I’m just keeping myself to myself,” she said.

“It’s been hard to heal,” she added. “I have to keep going back to have it re-glued as it keeps coming undone.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault.

A spokesman said: “Police are investigating an assault at Harry’s Bar (above The Brenchley) in Maidstone which left a woman suffering head injuries.

“It is reported that at around 11.30pm on Saturday, September 21, the victim was struck by a bottle during an incident involving a group of women who were unknown to her.

“The woman required treatment for her injuries at hospital, where officers also attended to gain an initial account. She has since been discharged and police have contacted and spoken to the victim again as inquiries into the assault continue.
