A former bank could soon become a venue for religious worship.

Christy Idahosa has submitted a planning application seeking permission for a change of use at the old NatWest branch in Sutton Road, Maidstone.

Mrs Idahosa is seeking permission for mixed uses, including Class E, Class F1(e), Class F1 (F) and Class F2((b).

That would cover uses such as commercial, business and service, public halls, exhibition halls, public worship and religious instruction, halls and meeting places for the principal use of the local community.

Plans show a men’s prayer room on the ground floor, a smaller women’s prayer room on the upper floor, two classrooms, and a room for radio broadcasting.

The building has suffered some vandalism, with several windows smashed, since the bank closed for business back in May last year.

Mrs Idahosa has not responded to a request for comment.
