Two former Maidstone councillors have got together to launch a new group to campaign for better bus services in the town.

James Willis and Fran Smith will host the first meeting of the West Maidstone Bus Forum at the Beechwood Community Hall in Tarragon Road, Maidstone, on June 11, starting at 6.30pm.

Mr Willis said: "I see this as a really vital way to work with all concerned to get Maidstone transport moving and to reduce some of the gridlock our county town suffers.

Mrs Smith said: "I hope the forum can achieve a better understanding between users and bus operators with a view to improving services and information.

"We need frequent, reliable buses to attract greater numbers of passengers and thus help alleviate the increasing traffic congestion in and around Maidstone."
