Seeds to grow "award-winning" cannabis are being sold by a shop in Maidstone town centre.

The packets, which claim to offer a "super uplifting high" when grown, can be bought as easily as a pint of milk.

UK Skunkworks, a so-called "legal high" shop in Mill Street, allows customers to buy the seeds from as little as £35 – all completely within the law.

Reference to the Misuse of Drugs Act and the fact it is illegal to grow the seeds is contained in two lines of small print on the packaging.

It takes just three working days from order to delivery, with the seeds dispatched from Amsterdam via the company's head office in Northfleet.

Bill Moss, Maidstone town centre manager, is uneasy with the apparent ease of access.

He said: "It's appalling that these people can exploit loopholes in the law. I totally condemn the fact that this is happening."

It is against the law to germinate the seeds, but the packaging advises its indoor flowering time is nine to 11 weeks.

Selling and possessing cannabis seeds is legal as they do not contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive constituent present in marijuana buds.

A UK Skunkworks spokesman said: "The seeds we sell are strictly for preservation and conservation purposes.

"If we suspect any customer has the intention of using the seeds in any illicit form we will simply not sell the seeds to them."
