A young boy was among two people injured by flying debris at a fireworks display which had to be swiftly cut short.

First aid teams rushed to help the child, who along with another man, were hit by "embers" at Kent Life's Fireworks Spectacular on Saturday night.

Organisers brought the show at the 28-acre site in Maidstone - which drew a 3,000-strong crowd - to a premature end on safety advice due to a change in the wind direction.

Bosses were told the gusts of wind could potentially see fallout blowing towards spectators, so took the decision to bring the show to a close three minutes early.

The two visitors suffered minor injuries before the event ended, on the same night three other youngsters were hurt when a teacup ride malfunctioned and spun out of control at Leeds Castle.

A similar display still went ahead in full at Kent Life the following evening.

General manager Natalie Cox said: "We are still responding to everyone who got in touch with us over the weekend and in the process of debriefing everything.

"We're devastated we had to cut this one short, but it was the safest thing to do..." Natalie Cox

"First aid teams did have to attend to an incident as unfortunately two people sustained very minor injuries from embers from the bonfire or fireworks.

"The fireworks had run for 10 minutes and were great, but the pyrotechnics company we work with said the wind was changing so we took the decision to close the show three minutes early.

"This was the first time in ten years we've had to do so, and we're devastated we had to cut this one short, but it was the safest thing to do.

"We had another display on Sunday, which 2,500 people attended, and everyone very much enjoyed."

As well as fireworks, the Spectacular also included fairground rides and a range of performance entertainers.
