A child escaped without any serious injuries when he was struck by a car in Kings Hill.

The two-year-old is believed to have run out in front of a vehicle in Tower View but the driver's quick-thinking actions meant he was not badly hurt.

The incident happened at about 2.45pm on Friday.

A 30-year-old witness said: "I was about to cross the road by the bus stops when I passed a lady standing with a pushchair.

"I suddenly heard her shout 'don't you dare' and out of the corner of my eye saw a little boy of about 3 dart by me, straight out into the road.

"I could see he was going to get hit as a black Mini Cooper which was passing a bus.

"Luckily, despite seeing him late, the driver's reaction was fantastic. She hit the brakes just in time."

The passerby, who only wished to be named as Jay, said the youngster was hit by the car's bumper and fell to the ground.

He added: "Thankfully the child sat up, looked around and started to cry. He was a very lucky little boy and to be honest if it was not for the driver's quick reaction the child would of certainly been killed or seriously injured."

The boy was taken to a nearby GP as a precaution.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "It is believed the two-year-old child was running and collided with the side of a vehicle.

"The child was taken to Kings Hill surgery but is not believed to have suffered any serious injuries apart from a minor bump to the head."
