Canterbury and Bluewater stores are safe but Maidstone Mothercare starts closing down sale

All stock is being reduced to clear as Mothercare starts its closing down sale today.

The firm announced that the Maidstone store on Week Street would be one of the outlets closing yesterday.

The price of some maternity items were reduced by as much as 30%.

A spokesman said: “This is a great opportunity for shoppers to get some amazing bargains on last minute Christmas gifts and maternity, baby and toddler essentials.

"Our most popular ranges will sell out quickly so we encourage all customers to come into the store as soon as possible to avoid disappointment."

Items were reduced in price from between 10% to 30%

The struggling firm had recently advertised in the shop window for more part-time staff and still had a sign up today.

The shop had been recruiting more part-time staff

Stores in Bluewater and Canterbury will remain open.

Mothercare expects 60 of its 137 stores will be closed by June 2019.
