It was told it needed to improve in two out of three categories.

Food handling was graded as "improvement necessary", while bosses were told management of food safety needed major improvement.

Muffin Break's cleanliness and the condition of the facilities were rated good, however.

The coffee shop has a second shop in The Mall, which has a food hygiene rating of five.

Also inspected last month, Kent Broadway News, which is found just outside Maidstone Crown Court and McDonald's drive-thru, was handed a one.

It was inspected at the beginning of September and told major improvements were needed in its management of food safety.

Inspectors also said it needed to improve its cleanliness and the condition of facilities and building, but said its hygienic food handling was "generally satisfactory".
