Two pals have started up a new skincare business using extracts from Pinot Noir grapes.

Jerome Moisan from Maidstone and Alex Verier from Hythe have launched Pelegrims, after combining their natural talents.

Mr Moisan is a former sommelier while Mr Verier has previously been a director at Haeckels, the Margate-based skin-care company.

Pelegrims uses extracts from Pinot Noir and Ortega grape harvests sourced from the Westwell Wine Estates vineyard near Charing.

Mr Mosian explained: "The extracts contain polyphenols, which are the helpful molecules with high antioxidant properties."

He said: "We love working with local ingredients - besides the grapes' skins, seeds and stems from our partner vineyard, we also experiment with Morello cherries from Lenham which also make for wonderful skincare active ingredients."

Pelegrims is the old English word for pilgrims - and it's a tribute to the Pilgrims' Way which runs above the vineyard along the North Downs.

Mr Verier said: "Our intention is to formulate low intervention, active skincare formulations that work in harmony with the skin supporting it to heal and rejuvenate itself. "

"Sustainability is hugely important to us, so using waste products from the wine-making process and harnessing the powerful grape extracts are at the core of our brand and our future research."

The company is so far producing a facial oil, a facial balm, a hand cleanser and hand pomade - all available online - from their laboratory at Aldington, near Ashford.

But Mr Moisan said: "We hope to see our products in shops soon."
