Vicky Parker, a co-ordinator from Downswood

Vicky Parker is one of the co-ordinators from Downswood.

The 32-year-old says the group needs, just eight more volunteers to have the whole of the Maidstone Borough covered.

Miss Parker said: "The group has come so far, it only started a few weeks ago and now we're just on that final push.

"The whole of Maidstone has been split up into 27 areas and we just need a few more people to ensure each town and village has its own support network.

"We're looking for people who can help co-ordinate volunteers in their local area. It would involve distributing leaflets, following the mutual aid guidelines and allocating the volunteers in that community to make sure that nobody in need gets missed out.

Duncan Edwards, a volunteer from Bearsted

"What we're going through is historic and we have all got to look after each other where we can."

Duncan Edwards, a volunteer for Bearsted said the aim of the group is to make lockdown more comfortable to those in need.

The 59-year-old said: "We have people out getting prescriptions and shopping and it has been really positive.

"The more links we can make the better. We need people who can help in their streets so there's no need to travel too far.

"Each area has a dedicated helpline which people can call if they need support. It's about encouraging neighbours to look after neighbours."
