A Christmas reindeer was so badly damaged by vandals it cannot be repaired.
The 4m high illuminated reindeer had been on display in Jubilee Square in Maidstone for just five days when it was set upon last Monday.
When it was discovered on Tuesday morning, its metal frame had been bent out of shape and it was taken away for repairs.
But today Maidstone council has confirmed that it cannot be rebuilt.
A spokesman said: "The reindeer cost £4,416 and we’re very disappointed that someone has spoilt everyone’s enjoyment of it this Christmas.
"Sadly, we can’t afford to replace it.”
It was one of the main lights in the town provided by Maidstone council, along with two illuminated Christmas trees in the upper and lower High Street.
The vandalism has been reported to the police and they are investigating. It is thought to have happened between 6pm on Monday and 9.30am on the Tuesday.
