Wallis Avenue, Park Wood, Maidstone, which is due for demolition

A DATE is still yet to be set for bulldozers to demolish 100 rundown homes in Park Wood.

Contractors are waiting for Golding Homes to give the green light to destroy blocks of flats in Wallis Avenue, Longshaw Road and Brishing Lane, which fall under phase one of a £38 million regeneration of the estate.

The first of three stages was granted planning permission in February and all of the affected tenants have been relocated but the buildings are still standing. Work was originally earmarked to start in March.

A spokesman for the social housing firm said it is hoped demolition will commence in June and explained work has been delayed by planning formalities.

An application for phases two and three include Balmoral House, Belvedere House, Grosvenor House, Nelson House, Reading House, Thanet House, the shopping parade and the flats above it, is expected to be submitted to Maidstone council in the next few weeks.
