The demolition phase on an estate is now complete as part of a multi-million pound regeneration.

Golding Homes has knocked down more than 100 properties in Cambridge Crescent in Shepway near Maidstone marking an “exciting milestone” for the project.

Demolition started earlier this year and last week councillors and business owners had a chance to visit the site as part of a symbolic event to allow stakeholders to meet the contractor to see progress.

Guests included Shepway Ward councillor Maureen Cleator, Maidstone council’s cabinet member for housing and homelessness, Cllr Simon Wales, as well as representatives from local businesses including Co-op, Fusion Healthy Living and The Vine Church.

Tom Casey, executive director of development and strategic asset management at Golding Homes, said: “It was great to be able to show our valued partners the progress we’re making at Cambridge Crescent and explain our ambitions for the area.

“We’ve worked closely with the local community and stakeholders from the very beginning of this project and will continue to keep them closely informed, as we know just how important this is to local people.

“This is a significant investment project for us in our core area of Maidstone. Alongside our development partner, Skillcrown, we’re looking forward to delivering new, high-quality affordable homes, shops and facilities that are much-needed.”

Now the first of the three phases is complete, Skillcrown, the project contractor, is ready to start work to deliver 119 of the new homes and four commercial units.

The investment will eventually see the creation of 236 new, energy-efficient affordable homes and a modern shopping area, improved landscaping and community facilities.

Many residents welcomed the plans when permission was granted in 2022.

In September, Golding Homes is planning an open day to promote employment opportunities on the development for the local community.
