DJ Mark Knight to host charity night at Source Bar, Maidstone, in aid of Oliver Fisher Unit at Medway Maritime Hospital

Heidi and Pete Griffiths, from Maidstone, praise the Oliver Fisher Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for saving their daughter's life

People might not associate the heavy beats of house music with seriously ill children, but a record label is asking clubbers to do just that.

Hundreds of revellers will head to Source bar, in Rose Yard, Maidstone, on Saturday, December 14, but not for a usual night at the popular venue.

Dance label Toolroom Records, based in St Peter’s Street, is taking over the venue to help raise funds for the Oliver Fisher Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Medway Maritime Hospital.

It will be the second time the label has hosted the fundraiser, which is close to the team’s heart, especially for manager Pete Griffiths, 33, who praised the Gillingham unit for saving his daughter’s life.

Mr Griffiths and his wife Heidi, of Postley Road, Maidstone, spent a week at the unit in 2011 when their first child, Flo, was born with pneumonia.

Mr Griffiths said: “It was a truly humbling experience seeing first-hand the care the doctors and nurses provide. They would work tirelessly around the clock caring for the children as if they were their own.

“Flo is now like any other two-year-old toddler – very active and cheeky.

“She does suffer with respiratory problems with asthma, but if it wasn't for the Oliver Fisher Unit, Flo wouldn’t be with us today. We owe them everything.”

DJ Mark Knight, who owns the label and will be playing at the gig alongside Mr Griffiths, said: “Toolroom Records is a family and we all support each other.

“We host events across the world, but we wanted to do something local for charity and this cause is very close to all of us.

“We raised more than £5,000 last year and we hope to achieve the same success this year.

“We hope it will become an annual event.”
