Fernham Homes not to blame for Church Street disruption

Fernham Homes is not to blame for the roadworks that have disrupted residents and parents taking their children to school this week.

The company was incorrectly blamed for the roadworks in Church Street, Boughton Monchelsea, because it was assumed the work by BT was in support of the company's new housing development at the top of the road. However, the firm warned that it did have road works of its own yet to come.

Antony Iren, the technical manager at Fernham Homes, said: “We would like to clarify that the current roadworks taking place on Church Street in Boughton Monchelsea are not connected with our Boughton Park development and believe these to be service works by Openreach."

He said: "We currently have no off-site service works taking place that require a road closure."

But he said: "We do still have some vital work to do in this area of the village, as a new electricity main needs to be brought onto site from the pavement on Church Street, but this will be arranged by our services consultant (TriConnex) and KCC once they have agreed a date.

"We had intended to get these works done at the same time as the Openreach road closure in order to cause less disturbance, but unfortunately this was not possible.

"As these works are in the public highway, KCC will work with an agreed service provider to plan and complete them, and they should notify residents in advance.

"This will inevitably cause some disruption and we would like to apologise to residents. We are committed to minimising noise and inconvenience to local residents wherever possible.”

The company is already taking reservations for its development of 41 four- and five-bedroom homes, with starting prices from £439,995. Details here.
