A fire is believed to have started when hot embers from a brazier spread to a skip full of rubbish.

Three fire engines attended the blaze outside a house in Wateringbury and crews had to wear breathing apparatus while they tackled the flames using hose reel jets and one main jet.

No injuries were reported.

It’s believed the fire started accidentally when rubbish was being burned in a brazier and embers were blown into the skip and its contents. The flames also spread to the house and caused some smoke and fire damage.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman advised: “If you’re planning on lighting any outdoor fire, including bonfires, fire pits or barbecues, remember to keep them well away from any buildings, garden sheds, fences, hedges, or overhanging branches.

“Make sure they are supervised at all times, and are fully out before being left unattended.”

The fire started at 10.15 this morning. Crews were able to leave the area at 11.30am.
