A person has been airlifted to hospital in a serious condition after they collapsed along a busy road.

The emergency services were called to a medical incident on the A20 near the former Somerfield Hospital, in Maidstone, this morning.

A spokesman for the ambulance service confirmed paramedics were called to a report that someone had collapsed at around 10.20am.

Crews attended along with the air ambulance and the person received treatment at the scene.

They have since been airlifted to hospital in a serious condition.

Police officers said they were called at around 10.30am to support paramedics with a medical incident at a bus stop.

A section of London Road between Queen's Road and Buckland Hill was closed and traffic was being diverted.

As of 12pm, the road was reopened.

Kent County Council’s highways team said there were delays in the area and asked drivers to use an alternative route if possible.

Arriva’s 71 and 72 services were also operating via Tonbridge Road and Queens Road in both directions while the incident was dealt with.

One fire engine also attended.
