Emergency services search for man seen swimming in River Medway in Maidstone

Emergency services were searching a river for after a swimmer was spotted in the water.

Fire crews and police arrived in St Peter's Street, near Asda Living, yesterday morning, pictured by the banks of the River Medway in Maidstone.

Kent Police was called just after 11.45am following reports a man had been seen swimming in the river.

Yesterday, a spokesman said: "Officers, along with the Kent Fire and Rescue Service, are at the scene completing a search but the man has not been located at this stage."

Several police vehicles and three fire engines were said to be in attendance.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service has since confirmed this was a false alarm.
