Ever fancied owning a desk made for a till to stand on? Or how about a Calvin Klein display?
Now you can, as the entire contents of House of Fraser, in Maidstone, which is to close for a major refit, are being auctioned off.
The department store, in Fremlin Walk, will be shutting at the end of March for around six months to give the 100,000 sq ft space a huge makeover.
As part of the first phase of works, auction house NCM Auctions has been tasked with clearing out the three-floor space.
The no-reserves online auction features a range of retail fixtures and fittings, branded merchandising units, concession stands, catering equipment, homewares and furniture.
Items such as a till station are listed with a starting bid of £50.
You can also bid on a box of metal rails, an evacuation chair and the contents of a cash office and beauty room.
The auction is aimed at providing smaller businesses, independent retailers, and charities the opportunity to buy goods at a reduced cost.
It is said to a be sustainable way of clearing out retail units as the contents are reused rather than going to landfill.
Jodie Hide from NCM Auctions added: “We have a huge buyer base and it is great to see these smaller retailers using our auctions to help benefit their businesses.
“At the same time, we are helping clear space and reduce redevelopment costs for our client.”
The auction is live and bidding is expected to end on Wednesday (February 21) from 1pm. You can view the catalogue here.
House of Fraser was first founded in 1849 as a single drapery shop in Glasgow.
It is now one of the last department chains standing in our high streets, following the departure of shopping giant BHS.
In August 2018, the company announced its intention to call in administrators, which would have put 17,500 jobs at risk nationally.
Entrepreneur Mike Ashley, who owns Sports Direct, immediately struck a deal to buy the brand and its stock for £90 million.
Each store sells a range of fashion, beauty, home and accessories, including designer brands such as Ralph Lauren, Barbour, Biba, Hugo Boss, Mulberry and Calvin Klein.
