Farm buildings have been ravaged by a huge fire that firefighters spent all of yesterday afternoon tackling.

It took eight hours for the affected property in Pye Corner, Ulcombe, to be declared safe after the fire service was first called at 11.56am.

Residents living near the blaze described the scene and noise as being reminiscent of a bomb exploding.

Eight fire engines were sent to combat the flames, which mainly affected a 50 square metre workshop.

A resident who lives near the scene, said: "We live nearby and went up to stop people going down the road as it was like bombs appearing to go off -gas canisters we suspect.

"Thank God the wind is going in a different direction."

Another said it looked like 'a load of fly tipping stuff' was on fire.

Water is being drawn from a source further down the road towards Pye Corner and drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

The huge cloud of smoke above the scene can be seen from miles around, with pictures coming in from as far as Kemsley, nearly 15 miles away.

The are no reported injuries and, at this stage, the cause of the fire is not known.

Kent Police also enforced a road closure around Pye Corner to help keep the area safe.
