Firefighters were called to put out a fire which broke out on the fifth floor of a tower block.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service sent four fire engines and a height vehicle to the College Court flats in Hayle Road, Maidstone shortly after 3.30pm.
On arrival the crews discovered a blaze in a flat and the building was quickly and safely evacuated. There were no reported injuries.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus put out the fire using a main jet hose and they were able to leave the scene at around 6pm.
One room in the apartment sustained some fire and smoke damage, while the whole apartment was left with extensive smoke damage throughout.
A resident who lives in the flats said: “I got here about 10 minutes ago and saw the fire engines, so it’s a bit of a shock.
“It doesn’t look like there’s any fire damage to the building or anything and nobody seems to be hurt.
“There’s a lot of people standing outside waiting about and some cars can’t get to the parking because of the engines.”
The cause of the fire is not known.
