Crash at Fremlin Walk shopping centre car park in Fairmeadow, Maidstone

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene of a crash involving five cars in Maidstone.

It happened next to the Fremlin Walk shopping centre car park on the A229 Fairmeadow and left debris strewn across the road.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 7.20pm. Two fire engines initially attended, they were joined by two ambulances and several police vehicles.

Fairmeadowwas blocked southbound and there are already queues stretching back to Royal Engineers' Road.

Traffic was diverted via Earl Street, Pudding Lane and High Street.

The A229northbound was unaffected and the road was reopened by 8pm.

Emergency workers clear debris

One casualty was freed from one of the cars and passed over to medics for treatment.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: " Officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene where a woman was treated for injuries that are described as minor. She was taken to a local hospital for further medical attention."

Harry Bartlett was driving his Artic van when the accident happened.

He said: “From what I could tell is that the silver Audi was heading out of Maidstone and must of been doing some considerable speed, lost control and must of hit the car ahead of him, he then bounced off of that car and then flew into the blue KA that was to my two o’clock which then smashed into me."
