A multi-car crash has caused heavy delays for drivers heading out of Maidstone this morning.

The five-vehicle collision happened on the Chatham-bound carriageway of Blue Bell Hill, near Mickey's Diner.

Congestion stretched back towards the Audi showroom, off the Running Horse roundabout.

The Highways Agency warned motorists to avoid the area during the rush-hour.

Kent Police said officers were called at about 7.40am and there have been no reported injuries.

Congestion was clearing by around 10am, but one lane remained closed as the vehicles awaited recovery.
